awesome diving places in Hawaii
I am going over for a short stint and have enough time to get a dive in. I am going to be in honolulu for my stay. Can anyone recommend a good dive location or dive shop that goes to some good locations. I am interested in coral over fish if that helps.

If in Honolulu only then the number 1 choice is Hanauma Bay. It is a marine reserve with turtles, lots of our aquarium fish and corals. Unfortunately Hawaii does not have corals like our Barrier Reef. They are mainly smooth encrusting montipora or porites looking in shades of yellows, light greens and purples. Still really pretty. Spot a school of dozens of yellow tang and you will quickly forget about corals. Hanauma Bay is a short trip, 1/2 hour and all tour operators will take you there and rent equipment. There is a park entry of a few dollars. Below in the posts are some videos of mine from Hawaii including Hanauma Bay. I'm going back for the 3rd time in May and Hanauma Bay tour is booked for a snorkle again.

We went diving with Waikiki dive centre, they were fantastic to deal with. Very professional instructors and not to over the top. We did 6 dives with them over a week.
They took us out on a club night for a dusk then night dive. Go down for the dusk dive to get bearings, come up and watch the fireworks, they fed us clam chowder and a few other dinner items and then went for the night dive.
I dive in board shorts because of the warm water, saw dragon morays, heaps of tangs, Parrot fish in mucus bubbles, few sharks.
Corals are nothing to write home about, but the wrecks around there are pretty cool with the turtles sitting on the decks.

It's not a reef without some coral eaters, reefing on the edge.

If you are going to Maui, I recommend the Molokini crater. Beautiful dive, full of large fishes and tangs, large and disperse hard corals and works for snorkelers, too.
