Electrical Goods Compliance

Post by MASA »

Dear MASA Members, RTAW users and Vendors,

It has been brought to the MASA committee's attention that any electrical goods sold in Australia with a non-Australian plug (i.e. European adapter) is non-compliant with Australian Law.

Please refer to the legal documents provided by NSW Fair Trading:

* NSW Fair Trading - Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2004 No 4: http://www.masa.asn.au/masawiki/index.p ... 2004-4.pdf

* NSW Fair Trading - Safe electrical goods A guide for retailers and importers: http://www.masa.asn.au/masawiki/index.p ... _goods.pdf

* NSW Fair Trading - Electrical Appliances and Equipment Requirements for their sale in NSW Explanatory Notes: http://www.masa.asn.au/masawiki/index.p ... y_2013.pdf

As laws vary from State to State, the MASA committee recommends you contact your local authority should you have any concerns. MASA also reiterates that it will not act in any form as a dispute resolution medium and have been recommended by the NSW Fair Trading department to refer any consumer complaints to the point of purchase or directly to them.
