I think Blennies are probably the best option for a breeding challenge.

Cheap, easily obtainable, in demand, and satisfy the easier to breed category.

i like the idea of clown's!

timmmysli wrote:Or how about an OPEN challenge, anything goes, to win you have to sell/give away the most fish/inverts to win the challenge. There could be a list of fish or inverts to pick from, all of which should already be proven to spawn in captivity but not readily available in Aus for sale as captive bred. Think about how many reefers already have spawning fish in thier aquarium but don't bother raising the fry, maybe this could encourage them to finally give it a go.

i understand what you are saying through out you post, but tooooo hard. we already have a propagation and breeding forum for that type of thing.

the species specific challenge is so that we can all work together to try and get it to work

Example: Any species of clown that aren't commonly found as captive bred in lfs, so clarki's, skunks....

the reason these are not readily available as they are not a big seller. any LFS will tell you that they will just sit in the shop.

i like the idea of blennies as well, i liked them last year, but everyone voted for the hardest option.

It fun having a couple of thousand larvae & in teh end only have 1 as all teh rest have been eaten.

ok, i have refined the list a little, based on availability, price and easiness (kind of)

1)pipefish- species to be determined
2)seahorse- species to be determined
3)clowns -species to be determined
4)striped fang blenny- Meiacanthus grammistes
5) yellow tail fang blenny - Meicanthus atrodorsalis

personally i think the last 2 are the way to go, even though i think the striped ones are ugly

anything else before i create a poll to get it rolling?

your mad if you choose clownfish, people will not get them to spawn in appropriate time frames.

I'd like to see some shrimp breeding options available. Although cheaper varieties like the peppermint shrimp would be a bit more user friendly I believe.

we could only really do peppermints.
