Just started out in the world of marine aquariums? Daunted by all the information, conflicting advice and just wondering what you should do? This is a forum for all of those that are new to the hobby to ask all and any beginner type of questions.

So does mine, but are pragmatic enough to admit that it's because they can't afford to waste so much water as you do when using RODI.
Businesses need to make choices that are economic but satisfactory enough to do the job. Their goals are different to those of hobbyists, but an honest owner / employee will explain that to you, too.
Edit: sydney tap water has changed a lot over the years and still varies from region to region. I would never use tap water in a reef or marine tank. Jm2c as usual.

Coming from a plumber, i can assure you unfiltered tap water is the last thing you want to be putting in your tank.. You have no idea what we find in mains water pipe lines!

Mgreen, how bad can it be, i wont name names but one of the local water supply authorities here found a blocked ferule was caused by a family of eels

Lol cant say i've seen that. But if people saw the inside quality (or lack of) of the water pipes they drink out of every day, they might turn green. In saying that most lines have been replaced over the years, i'm only refer'ing to old gal pipe's.
