Introduction
Carbon Dosing utilises the addition of organic carbon to stimulate bacterial growth as a means of reducing nitrate and phosphate levels. Often it is applied in the form of the addition of vodka (ethanol), sugar or vinegar (acetic acid), and hence the abbreviation that is sometimes used VSV.
There is extensive discussion in this thread in the Advanced Discussion forum.
Application
It is not possible to give specifics for dosing due to the infinite variations between tanks, even of the same size. There are details on determining starting points and the process for assessing the dosages for this avaiable in the URLs listed below in Resources.
